In recent years, the problem
of trash has been highlighted as a global environmental problem. In our National
Government Parks too we have been looking for a way to minimise the burden on
the environment caused by the treatment of waste matter. In Showa Kinen Park,
we have been successful in creating an ongoing system for the appropriate treatment
of waste, based on suggestions from the Operational Research into the Treatment
of Waste Products Arising in Parks (H.3).
In concrete terms, waste coming from parks is basically collected separately,
and raw waste, cut grass, leaves, pruned branches, and similar plant waste are
re-cycled as compost.
Bottles, cans, cardboard boxes etc. and other similar trash which can be re-cycled,
are separated and consigned to recycling businesses. Non-combustible trash such
as plastic and vinyl are consigned to re-cycling businesses.
Visitors to the park may go and look at the processing into compost of raw waste
and plant waste and also see how the recycled compost is distributed. We would
also like to promote further research into the making of solid fuel from raw waste.
