 Ideal Environmental Location

 1. Natural Environment

This park, is located 35 kilometers to the west of the center of Tokyo in a section of the Musashino plain, which is enclosed by the Sayama hills to the north and the Tama hills to the south. The park, through which runs the Zanbori river of the Tama river water system, has a fairly flat topography. The stratum is diluvial (Tachikawa loam), and forms a stable bedrock. The soil in the park is 'kuroboku' and is ideal for growing plants. In addition to a red pine forest many delightful trees are growing here.

2. Cultural Environment

This is a large scale park which meets the demand for recreation within reach of the capital, its location makes it a core facility for recreation and culture in the Tama Linking Urban Development Scheme. The park is near JR Tachikawa and Nishi-Tachikawa stations, and plans are underway to construct a network of roads around the periphery; it will certainly be easily accessible for the entire metropolitan area. This vacant land, once used as the former US army air base has been planned both as a business area and a spacious area for use in time of disasters. It is hoped that it will form an ideal new urban district which blends perfectly into the existing surrounding urban landscape.
