Waterfowl
Lake takes most of the zone and as its name implies it is a world of water which
is truly blessed. The flocks of wild birds fly here, and the luxuriant growth
of the flowering trees and the people who come boating all seem to pay tribute
to this oasis. It is the first time that the government has focussed its attention
directly on a 3.5 hectares bird sanctuary close to the edge of a pond. 3.5 hectares
bird sanctuary close to the edge of pond is in the spotlight that the government
has built it for the first time. |
| Waterfowl Lake | |
![]() |
The water in the Waterfowl Lake is available for all who like to be near water in boats, or rowing or using the pedaloes which are provided, and younger children can sail their model yachts too. With a total surface water of 50,000m2 , the Waterfowl Lake has a beauty of its own, and in addition to giving a sense of tranquillity, it has become a living environment for a great variety of animals and plants such as birds, insects, and fish. In fact it is a man made lake made from spreading a waterproof sheet over the layers of stones on the Tama hills to collect the rain water. To enable the aquatic plants to grow luxuriantly, concrete has been spread over the sheet, and soil piled on top of that to make an area which can be cultivated. All the rain water falling around the lake is used to supply it with water. In times of water shortage, the lake water is restored to the plants. In the future we are looking at ways of combining the purified natural water and circulating it to link up with the Waterfowl Lake, the Mountain Stream and the lake in the Japanese Garden to the north of the park as well. |
